Dear October

Dear October,

We are almost into your beautiful month. The colors are changing all around me, the air is starting to have that crisp-fall breeze. I've been waiting for you for a long 9 months. This month you will bring me my baby girl. No pressure, I know it's a lot to deliver. But oh do I hope our beautiful girl will be born in your month. Just think of all the birthday parties we could throw together! Cowgirls, pumpkins, tea parties, dress up parties. A great time can be had for many years.

So dear October, if you would so sweetly deliver my baby girl around the 25th of your beautiful month. I would be forever grateful.

Eagerly awaiting the 25th Pregnant Mama.

edit: This might turn into a Dear November post...please Evie be nice to your mommy and come out on time :)

I am looking for guest bloggers to post, while I am out with a newborn. If you are interested in posting on THH, please e-mail me at thehalberthomestead @ yahoo. com
I would need the posts by October 12th if possible! :) Thanks!

Bump Watch: 36 Weeks

Pregnancy: 36 Weeks!

Weight Gain: 25lbs. Exactly the same amount I was with Curtis. Still averaging about .5-1lb a week.

Sleep: Pretty uncomfortable. Been back to going the bathroom 5x a night. Waking with a few contractions here and there as well. Cannot wait to sleep on my stomach/back again.

Names: Evelyn Dawn read about why we named her that here. Her nickname will be Evie. Which Curtis affectionately already calls her

Feeling: Fairly tired most days, sometimes I get an urge to "nest" and then it's followed by being really tired. Finding if I do too much house work I end up with some contractions, so trying to limit the work around the house. I'm pretty much starving all the time, had no idea this is what the last 4 weeks of pregnancy is like. I could eat pretty much any/everything in sight. I do battle the reflux/heartburn though, so I have to find balance with eating too much and dealing with heartburn.

Movement: She is still so very active, no slowing down for this girl. Bradley videotaped my belly the other night, because it pretty much looked like she was trying to break out through my belly button. I'm just hoping she's still head-down when we go in next week.

Next Appointment: October 3rd 37wks Yay for the GB Swap test...not.

Milestones: Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath.

Things I Actually Say | Gross Boy Edition

"Yay you went a BIG HUGE MUD"
(in reference to his giant poop in the potty, that he calls mud)

After Curtis playing in the bath tub for a few minutes, he said to me
"Look mommy big pee-pee"
he kept repeating it until I had to repeat it.
"Yes Curtis, that is a big pee-pee"

While in a public restroom my son says
"Wow mommy you go mud?"
I reply
"No mommy's not going mud, just pee"
:insert giggles of fellow women in the restroom:

"You're not a cow, we don't eat grass"

"No that's not mud-mud, it's mud from rain and dirt...not mud from our bottoms"

Boys are so much fun.
We've tried to correct him and tell him it's called "Poop" but he just
goes "No, it's mud" it's mud has become a family saying.

Motherhood Monday Link Up | More Business of Being Born

Netflix just added More Business of Being Born. I have wanted to see this since it was released last fall. I watched The Business of Being Born, while I was pregnant with Curtis. It helped me write my birth plan at the time, and gave me ideas of what to ask my midwife etc... So only appropriate I watch the 2nd installment while pregnant with Evelyn.

Bradley and I started watching it last week. It's a 4 part series.  The 1st one was about The Farm, Ina May Gaskin It was so interesting to watch.. I admire those midwifes a lot!
If I lived close to the farm, I'd totally give birth there.

(However warning, the first part shows scenes from the farm during the 70's and lets just say there is a lot of hair and bosoms!)

The 2nd part was Celebrity Birth Stories. I loved this. I love birth stories, I stalk every pregnant mama's blog looking for their birth story. Add celebrity's into the mix, and I'm all about it. It was great hearing other women who are normally "out of touch" talk about the experience of birth. No matter if they are a celebrity or your neighbor. We are all mothers, giving birth, going through the natural process. Bradley was bored with this part,  but I found it enthralling.

The 3rd/4th parts covered a lot. Dula/Birthing Centers/C-Sections/VBACS. It was all interesting, and all worth watching. I love the idea of a dula, I think if I didn't have a great support system (my husband/Mom/Sisters) or was going into a very hostile hospital environment or wasn't willing to tell the nurses shut up I got this I think a dula would come in handy for me. Because I have a great support system, am in a very mom-baby-birth friendly hospital, and may have told a nurse to shut up before. I think in my case I don't need one :) As for free-standing birthing centers, I kind of feel like why not just have it at home? They bring/have the same equipment at the birthing center then that they would at home. Not to mention I think I'd be much more comfortable in my own bed/environment vs. a room that looks like another persons guest room. But that is just my personal opinion, everyone has the right give birth where ever they are the most comfortable!

I had a very detailed birth-plan last time, and while that didn't go anything according to plan. I did get to have a vaginal delivery and receive a healthy pre-term baby at the end. So even though my birth didn't go exactly as planned, everything turned out just fine. This time we met with our hospital's Birthday Wishes appointment, where we talk to a nurse about what our wishes are for when we deliver, we write it down, she highlights the important parts to us and puts it in our file for when we come in for delivery. I love their program, and they are soooo momma-baby friendly. They do everything right next to you in the room. Baby is instantly placed on the mom's chest, my midwife waits to cut the cord. They even have wireless-waterproof monitoring, should you need monitoring constantly. You can request intermediate monitoring no problem. I'm happy to deliver our 2nd baby there.

As much as I like our hospital, I love the idea of home births as well. My Mom had all 4 of us kids at home during the 70's-80's with an OB and Midwife. My sister had her last baby at home almost 2 years ago as well. I've seen all ends of the spectrum, and commend each and every woman on their births. Who am I to judge a woman on what she decides to do with her body and delivery?

The thing that I love about BOBB documentary is they say over and over...we just want women to be aware of the options, stand up for themselves. But in the end it's their bodies, and do what you are comfortable with. They just want to educate, not judge or tell you what to do.

If you haven't had a chance to see it, I recommend it!

Are You My Mother | Baby Shower

My Baby Shower was September 8th, and I am thrilled to say I was still pregnant to attend! Unlike my last baby shower, I was giving birth to my son and missed it. My family and friends put together an adorable apple & bird shower for me. They also made sure they scheduled it at 33weeks, just in case Evelyn decides to be impatient like her brother.
I felt loved and cherished when I looked at each and every detail.

*All these photos were taken by my talented friend Jennifer*
The theme Are You My Mother was beautifully portrayed in the details throughout the shower.
Everything from sparkling apple cider bottles, attached with matching straws and twine.

They served beautiful food.
Morrocaan Apples with cheese and bread.
Grilled cheese & apple sandwiches.
Apple slices and fruit dip.
Salad with chopped apples.

The favors were chocolate dipped apple slices!
They were so cute and yummy!

This little Cutie pie will be Evie's BFF cousin.
They should be about 6 months apart!

We were so incredibly blessed at the shower. Between the decorations, games, food, gifts. It was an out pour of love for our baby girl.

We can't wait until our little pumpkin is finally here.

Thank you to my Mom, Heather, Cashel, & Robyn for a beautiful shower!

Bump Watch: 35 Weeks

Well hello 35/35! Only 35 days left! Yikes! What's amazing is by 3:42am tomorrow I will officially be pregnant the longest I've ever been. I'm crossing my legs until then, I'm determined to make it to 40 weeks! I might like Pam from The Office and ignore the contractions and say I'm fine, when in active labor. Okay maybe not that bad ;)

Now for some great news! Evelyn Dawn is no longer breech! She is HEAD DOWN!!
::Happy dance:: We went to our Midwife appointment yesterday morning, I was nervous  because I knew if she was still breech it meant talking about/scheduling a version and/or c-section. We had the ultrasound during the first few minutes of the appointment, and we immediately found her head down below! (Although it is resting a tad over to the left) I guess all the crawling around, spinning babies exercises worked! I was prepared to go into my Chiro that afternoon to start the websters technique if she was still breech. But alas she's a good little girl, and flipped her self around. I will say Tuesday night she was moving like crazy, and some of it was painful. So I am wondering if that was her doing the flip to head down.

Since the ultrasound was out of the way, it was an easy appointment from there on out. Oh and we got to check see her fluid levels, which are all great! So far this pregnancy is a complete 180 from her brother's. Which I gladly welcome. Since all is well, we won't go back for another 2 weeks, so 37weeks (Term) Where I'll do the group B test. I never had that test done with Curtis, because he was early..they automatically  hooked me up to antibiotics  I'm hoping that I test negative for this, so I can avoid being hooked to tubes during labor.

Okay now that this is 10x longer than normal, here's the weekly updates

Pregnancy: 35 Weeks!

Weight Gain: 24lbs! 1lb away from when I delivered Curtis. I'm pretty sure I can make it to 30lbs if I go full term. Since I'm steadily doing 1lb/week. Which will be great, since that's the goal weight my peri put for me.

Sleep: This week sleep has been a rare thing. Curtis is having his 2nd cold in 3 weeks! He's been sleeping okay (minus 1 night he was up for 2hours) but he's coughing in his sleep, or asking for water...and once I'm awake it's harder for me to go back to sleep. I'm trying my hardest to nap during his naps, but that doesn't always happen either. I did take a snooze at my parents house while Curtis played the other day. That was nice. Also my shoulders/hips are starting to ache by 3am from laying on them. I'm soooo ready to sleep on my back/stomach.

Names: Evelyn Dawn read about why we named her that here. Her nickname will be Evie. Which Curtis affectionately already calls her

Feeling: Tired this week, probably from the lack of sleep. Also feeling out of breathe, I think since she finally flipped into head down her legs/feet are more in my ribcage, which is causing me to feeling I need to take big deep breathes all the time. I'm finding sitting forward in a hard chair is the most "comfortable"

Movement: Thankfully she was a good girl and moved head down this week, So we are hoping she stays this way. Movements have felt a little different since she's in a new position. I'm going to be bouncing on the yoga ball every day for awhile, in hopes to keep her head down :)

Next Appointment: October 3rd 37wks Yay for the GB Swap test...not.

Milestones: She's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (pick up a honeydew melon). Her kidneys are fully developed now, and her liver can process some waste products. Most of her basic physical development is now complete — she'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.

Here's a comparison picture of my last bump picture with Curtis 35 weeks..and Evelyn at 35 Weeks. I think I'm carrying higher with Evie. Curtis was so low, and I had 2cm of fluid around him so overall my belly was tiny. This picture Bradley took on his phone after we were told we needed to get him out. His heart rate was dropping because of the low fluid, and he wasn't growing properly. So many emotions in that picture...but at least we snapped it, so we could have one last inside baby picture of him.

Coming Home Outfit

I realize a lot of my blog lately has been consumed with Baby Evelyn posts. I can't help but post about it in the final leg of this pregnancy! Every little thing excites {and scares} me about having a girl.

My Husband thinks the photos are creepy..which I kind of agree..but what other way could I show case the outfit Evelyn will be wearing home?! So for now you get these "Creepy" photos of her going home outfit.

The Pink hat my Grandma knitted her
(Her Mother is Evelyn Coles, Our Evie's name sake)

The pink rose outfit is from Carters, we bought it at Babies R Us. I wanted to do a dress, but with the car seat and the fact it will be late October in Colorado (meaning cold and possible snow) I opted to be more practical and stick with long sleeves/pants.

Curtis and Bradley picked out the pink coat at Target. They went looking for a gift for Evelyn, and my sweet husband thought she needed a little coat/sweater to come home, because it will be cold. <3 font="font">

The adorable ruffly shoe-socks are from our friends the Poskeys, they were a shower gift. Perfect to keep her piggys warm.

For fun here is Curtis in his bear outfit...that was swimming on him, little did we know he was going to be needing preemie clothing! He came home during a snow storm!

Sponsor Highlight | A Day In The Life

Come meet Mary from A Day in the Life. An adorable blog (seriously how cute are the hedgehogs!) where she blogs about just that...A day in her life with twin toddlers!

Hi!  I'm Mary.  I am a bloggin, cloth diaperin, food cookin, trying my hardest everyday mama of twin toddlers. They definitely keep me on my toes.  I blog about all of it.  I share the project we do and some of our favorite things to eat.  I share the special places we go and the special days we have.  I also like to share our bad days, because everyone has them.  It seems hard to believe how fast it all goes.  I think it is really important to slow down and play with you kids and enjoy everyday because they change so fast.  So stop by my blog and check out the twin toddler cuteness and the havoc the wreak.  I promise, it is an entertaining ride!

Thanks Mary for being a sponsor for the month of September!
Now go show her some love!

Happy 3rd Blogiversary...

Today is our 3rd blogging anniversary. Before The Halbert Homestead name change, we were Courteous Curtis & The Parents. But as our family grew, we realized that name didn't work anymore.
(Either that or Evelyn was going to feel totally ticked her name wasn't in the blog title)

My very first post on the blog, was our announcement of our pregnancy with Curtis
3 years ago.

Amazing how time flies by when you're having fun.
Here's too another 3 years of blogging memories and creating new blogging friendships!

Curtis Allen | 2.5 Years Old

How did my baby boy become 2 1/2 years old? I can't believe he will be 3 years old in 6months! No matter what he will always be my one and only baby boy. I've been even more sentimental about him growing up and becoming a big brother lately. Probably the impending delivery of his sister. I want him to never forget how precious he is to Bradley & I. How we changed our world 30months ago for the better. Being a parent is hard, but at the end of the day it's all worth it. The kisses, the hugs, the gentle tickles on his back. Yes. It's all worth it baby boy.

We love you Curtis Allen!

Bump Watch: 34 Weeks

Watch out..bare belly alert!
I'm pretty sure she's transverse (sideways) because I look a whole heck of a lot bigger from straight on then I do from the side. For memory purpose I decided to post a bare belly-front shot. What do you think? Belly bigger from the front?

I've been a tad MIA this week on the blog. This last week has been rough with Curtis going to sleep, so my nights are spent trying to get him to sleep and then crashing into bed myself. No time to write, and unfortunately I had nothing scheduled for this week (besides Evie's nursery post) I promise I'll catch up here! I still have to recap my adorable shower from last weekend, and Curtis's 2.5year old post! (He's 2 1/2 today exactly! woah!)

Pregnancy: 34 Weeks

Weight Gain: 22lbs Only 1/2 a pound this week, which the norm has been 1lb a week for awhile now. I am 3lbs away from where I was with Curtis when I delivered at 35wks. Granted I started at a lower weight this time.

Sleep: When I finally get to sleep it's been great. As I mentioned above Curtis has been fighting bedtime this week. By the time he's quiet/asleep, it's my bed time. (Not sure if its molars or something else going on with him) Once asleep I've been sleeping great, although the last 2 nights I have woken up with major charlie horses in my calves. The only way to get them to stop is for Bradley to rub them out. Man they are killer!

Names: Evelyn Dawn read about why we named her that here. Her nickname will be Evie. Which Curtis affectionately already calls her

Feeling: the 3rd tri-end exhaustion is back. I'm so tired in the afternoons, I'm trying hard to be motivated and get things done around the house. But boy oh boy, when 3pm hits I could zonk on the couch for a good 2 hours ....if only there wasn't a toddler running around ;) Having nightly contractions, which are picking up from before. Pretty sure this will be a normal occurrence until deliver. Although on Monday I did start timing them, because I had more then "my normal"

Movement: She's pretty quiet during the day. pretty sure I sway her to sleep when I walk, as soon as my head hits the pillow is when she starts her aerobics.

Next Appointment: September 19th 8:15am This is next Wednesday. If you could all send some prayers and thoughts that she's flipped head down, that would be great! I'll be sure to update after the appointment!

Milestones: Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well.
