Bump Watch: 32 Weeks

Realizing how yellow I look in all these photos, bathroom lighting stinks.
Too late now to switch up were I take pictures! So for now my eyes will just look really dark and puffy from the lighting ;)

Pregnancy: 32 Weeks

Weight Gain: 20lbs! Consistently gaining 1lb a week for the past month

Sleep: Every other night I get a good nights rest. I figure it's all just preparing me for the newborn phase right?

Names: Evelyn Dawn read about why we named her that here. Her nickname will be Evie. Which Curtis affectionately already calls her

Feeling: Hoping I'm staying away from my son's cold. Been feeling a little congested today, but praying it doesn't turn into his cold! Been having the pains of "lightening crotch" going on, which is to be expected. Then there's the lovely contractions that come at night, and if your bladder is full watch out...they hurt. Mid-contraction I have to pee so bad, that I waddle, hold my belly, and whine to Bradley about the pain until I make it to the bathroom. It's quite comical for everyone, but me.

Movement: Last night and this morning she's been an active little thing. I'm also feeling jabs/punches up by my ribcage which is a total first for this pregnancy. I'm wondering if she flipped either transverse or head down...Which would be amazing if she did.

Next Appointment: Next Friday, September 7th. Let's hope she's decided to flip around in there ;)

Milestones: By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus.  She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.

TAT | Cinnamon Rolls

This weeks TAT topic is easy go-to meals. Since I figured there would be an abundance of meal recipes in the link up, I thought I'd write about a breakfast or "dessert"

This cinnamon roll recipe, is by far the best recipe I've tried to date.
I've tried several different recipes, and either the dough was too sticky, or once they cooked they were dry and hard.
So if you want a really big splurge of sugar and goodness, try this recipe out.
Now if you don't own a bread machine, look below the recipe for variations.

Bread Machine Cinnamon Rolls
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 3 1/3 cups bread flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast or 1-1/2 teaspoons bread machine/ rapid rise yeast

  • Filling:
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup chopped and lightly toasted nuts

Add ingredients to bread machine as recommended by manufacturer. Program maker for the dough cycle. When cycle is done, place dough on floured surface. Knead dough about 1 minute, then let rest 15 minutes. Roll dough into a rectangle, about 15 x 10 inches. Spread 1/4 cup melted butter over dough to within 1 inch of edges, Then sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar, the cinnamon, nutmeg, and chopped nuts evenly over dough. Roll dough up tightly on long side. Press edges to seal and form into a 12-inch long, evenly shaped roll. With a knife or 8 inch long piece of dental floss, cut roll into 1 inch pieces. Place rolls cut side down into a greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise in warm, draft free place until double in size, about 30 to 45 minutes.

Bake in preheated 375 degrees F oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on rack for 10 to 15 minutes, then drizzle with powdered sugar icing made by combining 1 cup powdered sugar with 1 to 2 tablespoons milk and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Blend until smooth. If too thin or too thick, add more powdered sugar or milk, respectively, until desired consistency is reached.

By Mixer- If you don't own a bread machine (which you totally should, great investment!) put the ingredients listed for the dough in a mixer with a dough hook. Turn on medium speed for 5minutes. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes. Turn on low speed for 20minutes. Once done mixing, place a warm towel over the mixer bowl and place bowl in a warm-draft free place. Let rise for 60minutes. Once it has doubled in size after 60minutes follow the instructions above for rolling the dough.

Sticky Buns- Use brown sugar instead of white sugar, and add pecans to the roll! YUM!

Freezing- After slicing the cinnamon rolls (before rising) lay them on a greased cookie sheet. Place in freezer for 10-15minutes for a "Flash freeze", after 15minutes they should be hard enough to place in a ziplock freezer bag. Where you can store them until you need them! Just remove from freezer the night before in the fridge, in the morning place them on the counter for 30-45minutes for them to rise and double in size.

Introducing Motherhood Monday

Motherhood Monday
Introducing Motherhood Mondays!
A new link up party on The Halbert Homestead!

I thought this might be a fun series to do each Monday and invite my fellow mommy bloggers to join in! Motherhood Mondays, will be a time were you (moms) can post about your motherhood woe's/vents, your motherhood successes/praises, the good the bad and the ugly of being a mother. Really it's an open topic to allow you to share what has been on your heart or brain for the past week in motherhood-land!
It can be silly, random, not make any sense (hello pregnant brain?) it could be about the many colors of your newborns poop, or it could be deep and meaningful.

You never know you might find a fellow blogger/post each week where you can go
"I can totally relate to that, I'm so glad I'm not alone!"

Link Up Parties are also awesome for finding new blogs to read/follow, to increase traffic to your blog and make new friends along the way!

Since this is my first time doing a link-up party, I'm going to give this a trial run for the month of September. If it's off to a good start I will gladly continue it! I really hope this will bring us "mommy bloggers" into a closer community.

So grab your coffee or tea with me, pick up the button above

and let's link up next Monday, September 3rd for our first official
Motherhood Mondays post!

In the mean time...check out this great quote and post from The View From 510

*Motherhood Monday Link Up will go live on Sunday night at 9pm MST*

Show & Tell Monday | Wedding Edition

I'm linking up for the first time with From Mrs To Mama for her Show & Tell Monday! This weeks topic is weddings!

Are you married? If so when did you get married, and tell us about your special day. If not? How would you describe your dream wedding?

Bradley and I got married June 15th 2009.

Our wedding day was filled with trips to the bathroom, fevers, tornadoes, rain, wind, and hail. It was also filled with love, laughter, Gods presences, Family, Friends, Patience, and Grace.
We had an outdoor ceremony in the Black Forest in Colorado Springs. I came down sick with a stomach virus the day before my wedding. Instead of a rehearsal dinner and bachelorette party I was at the urgent care getting a steroid shot in my bum. I woke up late on the wedding day, barely got my nails done and was in the car for the hour drive down to the hotel to get ready. Where on the way there was a tornado on the side of the highway. Once safely at the hotel, all of us got ready for the ceremony. Once we drove the 15 minutes to the ceremony site, it was raining quite a bit by then.

After telling my dad, forget it rain or not I'm getting married!!
The most beautiful part of the ceremony was walking down the isle and the clouds parted...the sun came out and I felt the warmth on my back. I knew Gods presences was surrounding us and blessing us in that moment. No matter the storm or rain we might occure in our marriage, the clouds always part and the sun always shines through the darkness. Funny enough the sound we walked up the isle too as Mr.& Mrs.was Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles on guitar. I'd like to think God planned that just for me ;)

Show us some wedding pictures. Either yours or of some that you love.
Oops I must be ahead of the game since I already posted some.. But here are a few that I love...

How about the engagement? Tell us your story. If not engaged, what's your dream proposal?
It's a really long story, here is my old wedding-blog with no pictures..but the story is all there...
Let's just say he flew out and surprised me a disneyland in front of my entire family :)

Show us your wedding rings or an engagement photo! If not engaged/married ... show us your "dream" ring.
He did an amazing job.

What's your wedding story? Link up so we all can read too!

Curtis Says...

"I Love This" - This can be a food item he's eating, a toy he's playing with, or even going to a store. He loves a lot of things lately.

"My blue band-aid is all gone, went to doctor" -He's been telling anyone and everyone who will listen about his cast coming off, including grocery store clerks.

"This is delicious" - Apparently he picked this word up from me, it could be a bowl of cereal and "it's delicious mommy"

"We go bye-bye, we go to the store, we go to lunch, we go to shop, we go home, we take a nap, we play, daddy home" - He's really into planning out our days, and it almost always involves us going somewhere, which is hard to tell him that no we're just staying home today.

"When we wake up the SUN comes up! I say good morning sun, good night moon!"

Craigslist Score & Fail

We are big fans of secondhand/handmedown/craigslist/garagesale/consignment/goodwill anything. My husband admittidly is more so into these treasure hunts then myself. But if you get me going on a baby item search, I'm pretty addicted to finding the best deal.

A lot of items in our home are from the list above. Might not be straight out a catalog, but we're okay with that. It fits our budget and our style ;)

Recently I came upon this stroller that I really wanted

I started scouring Craigslist in hopes to find it for cheaper. Brand new it's about $300.00 so I was hoping to find it for 1/2 that. Well up pops an ad for my town with this stroller, plus the car seat attachment bar for $160! Score! I emailed right away, and got a response the next morning saying it was mine! YAY! She could meet that morning, and gave me her number. I promptly called and left voicemail, saying I could meet her someplace to exchange. Well after several hours of no communication, 2 e-mails and 2 phone calls later. I never heard from her again. :( I admit I was a little more then bummed. But that's the risk factor with craigslist, you don't have the guarantee  until it's in your hands.

So needless to say, I didn't get the stroller I wanted....and we are still on a search for a double stroller. So what does my husband do to cheer me up in my bummed stage? Finds another craigslist ad for something pretty cool. {ignore or dead grass please}

This little tikes play gym is huge. It's sturdy, has 2 slides, tunnels, and things to climb on.
It does have some sun fading, and a little spot up top that is worn a hole.
Brand new online it's $899.
Craigslist $30bucks

Oh yes. This made mommy very happy. Not to mention our kid was over the moon.
So even though there can be let downs on craigslist, there can diffidently be some scores.

*please always keep in mind there are scams out there, always meet at a safe public location and never by yourself*

After writing this blog post on Monday and scheduling it for Friday, I found the stroller above again on Craigslist (not the same one as before, but a different seller) I jumped on it and Wednesday we picked it up!! squeee!! Here's Curtis enjoying his new ride

Bump Watch: 31 Weeks

Hard to believe I've been doing weekly bump watches for 31 weeks now..well technically 27weeks since the first 4 weeks I didn't know I was pregnant ;)  Today (wednesday) I had my midwife appointment. Curtis came with me, and of course was a flirt with the nurses and my midwife. He was such a chatter box today, he couldn't wait to hear baby evelyn's heart beat and kept asking the "doctor feel tummy feel baby sister"

Evelyn's heart rate was 160, nice and strong. I'm measuring right on track, which I'm sure some of you are going "no way your small" from the picture above, but my long torso does a good job at spreading the baby out evenly..not so much out. My contractions have evened out a lot this past week, probably from all the resting I've been doing. So my orders stay the same, to rest as much as possible whenever I can. I asked about the position of E, because as of 2 weeks ago she was still breech. Diana tried to figure out how she was lying then gave up and got the ultrasound machine. She put the wand right below my belly button, and what do you know there's the top of Evie's head. After looking further, our daughter is sitting crisscross applesauce with her bum right on my cervix. Her legs/arms/face are all facing my back, which explains why I always feel movement on my back, and never up front..only rolling sensations on the front of my belly.

I know there's still time for her to flip, but goodness I like to be all ready to go with a head-down baby. Curtis was head down from 20wks on, never moved. So I will be doing a lot of hands/knees, some spinning babies methods  and then in a few weeks probably start seeing the chiropractor with the websters technique in hopes to have this baby flipped head down. My midwife said she'll start getting more concerned and talk about inversions/c-sections by 36weeks if she's not flipped. BUT I am not freaking out about that, babies can still flip even in labor. This little girl just needs to stop being stubborn ;)

So over all good appointment, everything remaining the same for now and we start going back every 2 weeks! She also reminded me I need to pre-register at the hospital, which puts it all in "Reality" that yes this kiddo is coming!

Pregnancy: 31Weeks

Weight Gain: I'm pretty steadily gaining 1lb a week so far up 18lbs total

Sleep: This week I've been having difficulty getting comfortable, which is typical for pregnancy but more so this past week. Sometimes I feel I need to just sit up and "breathe" been feeling suffocated lately while laying on either of my sides. Last night was a short lived sleep, I think I got maybe *maybe* 4hours of sleep. So here I am writing this blog post and really falling asleep on myself. So if this post makes no sense tomorrow when it goes'll know why ;)

Names: Evelyn Dawn read about why we named her that here. Her nickname will be Evie. Which Curtis affectionately already calls her

Feeling: Tired and run down lately. Bradley's been working long hours and late nights, which is to be expected since it's the busy season for him. However I'm feeling the side-effects of not having even that extra 2hours of help before bed time. I'm sure I'd be less whiny about it if I wasn't currently baking our other child ;)

Movement: She pretty much has established a routine now, she wakes me up early at 5am for a pee and then she does a few punches/stretches...then she's pretty quiet all day until after dinner. Then again at 11pm she starts moving a lot keeping me from sleeping.

Next Appointment: September 7th! We've hit the every 2-week status now! Yikes! Guess that means we really are in the home stretch!

Milestones: Baby measures over 16 inches long. She weighs about 3.3 pounds  and is heading into a growth spurt. She can turn her head from side to side, and her arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath her skin.

TAT | Favorite Baby Item

This weeks Toddle Along Tuesdays post is "Favorite Baby Item"

Do I have to pick just one? :)  I'm not sure what my favorite baby item will be with Evie, but by far my favorite baby item with Curtis was The Angel Care Monitor

My in-laws bought this for us, and it was by far one of the best presents we received. Little did we know we were going to be bringing home a preemie, and how this monitor made me rest assured my 4lb 11oz baby was still breathing. With the motion sensor and temperature gauge, it put my first time mama's worries to rest. I'm so glad we got this gift, I used it in our cradle when C was in our room and in his crib later on. It even worked great when he was a little older and could climb out of bed. The alarm would sound that "uh oh" we have an escapee! Some people thing it's over board to have a motion sensor monitor, or a monitor in general. But there is no way I could have slept a wink during those first few weeks, without knowing this monitor was on.

We will be using this monitor for Evelyn as well, and I know I will have the same piece of mind again.

Also don't you know Celine Dion used it for her twins? if she uses it, it MUST be good :)

What's your favorite baby item?

Blog World Thoughts | Watermarking Photos

If you've been around the blogsphere awhile, or surfing blogs. You'll notice a trend of watermarked photos. Something that would look like this...

A lot of bloggers do this, to help prevent someone from stealing their pictures & content of their blog. Who knows what kind of creepers are out there, ready to steal your kids pictures and claim them as their own! {Trust me I've read multiple stories about blogger's kids pictures being stolen and used to fake an identity on an online forum}

It's creepy, and kind of skeeves me out. I LOVE blogging, sharing my little world with you all. Even though I've never met a lot of you in person, or know your names...I would hope no one would try and steal my pictures..even though lets face it my kid is adorable, who wouldn't want to claim him as their own? But lets be real, it's 2012 and there are some real wackos out there.

So although the idea of Watermarking ALL my photos would be great, that would take a whole ton of time and effort, that right now in life I don't have. I'm caring for a toddler, baking another baby, and trying to be a good wife. When I do blog it's normally during nap times, or at night before the husband and I settle in for quality time.

--Bunny Trail--
A little insider fact for you non-bloggers...although you may think I'm blogging during the day, there's a really neat function called "Schedule" were I can pick the time/date I want my posts to publish. Which might give the illusion I'm writing blog posts, when I should be sitting down to dinner with my family ;) This post could have been written weeks ago!

Another factor for me not watermarking my photos is I just don't have the proper computer program that allows me to do this. I'm slacking in my technology photo programs. I know there are super easy ways to watermark photos, if you have the right program. But alas, those types of programs aren't in the THH budget :) {the above picture was done in paint, and took me way too long ha!}

Sooooooo you ask what is the point in all of this? Am I just peachy keen on letting my kids pictures be stolen from my blog? The answer to that is NO! I found an easy solution, that you might want to try on your blog too. Here's what I want you to do...

Right Click anywhere on this page.
Did this little baby pop up at you?

Pretty nifty right? If you'd like to learn how to enable this on your blog it's really simple!

Just like that my pictures/content of THH is protected. Now I'm sure my high-tech geeky brother could figure a way around this, but at least for all the dummy's out there who are trying to copy my photos, I'm pretty sure this will help stop them.

Just call me Supper Mom with the power to protect my blog and the power to share.
...okay might be watching too much Super Why lately...

Weekend Report | Frites! Beer! Cake! Birthdays!

This Saturday was my Dad's Birthday. His last hurrah in the 50's ;)
My Mom planned for us to go up in the Denver area for a special dinner and dessert.
We first drove to downtown Arvada. They have a beautiful downtown to walk around, and most importantly Manneken Frites Which are a Belgium {European style} fries, with all sorts of yummy dips {although traditionally you just dip them in mayonnaise}
Because my sister lived in Belgium for a couple of years, when we visited we often looked forward to Frites and belgium waffles.

All 7adults and 9 children occupied the outside tables and enjoyed our dinner and beers.
Well, I enjoyed my spiced lemonade with Curtis.
My Handsome Man enjoying his beer

Some of the kiddos waiting on Frites!
Papa & Gramma
Curtis decided he LOVES curry. This was a curry dip for the frites, and he could not get enough of it. At home point he was trying to drink from the little container. He diffidently doesn't take after his daddy in this department. Curtis & Mommy will be the curry lovers.

After walking off our frites and ice cream around town, we stopped into the German bakery to pick up papa's cake. German Chocolate Cake, none the less.
It's the only thing papa requests each birthday, and something I would eat on a daily basis if I could. Just give me a spoon and a tub of homemade coconut frosting. YUM.

Curtis really wanted to try all these yummy treats.

  Happy Birthday Papa!
