Home Security

It's been a whirlwind of events this weekend. Unfortunately on Saturday night, we heard my sister's (and family) house was broken into and robbed. They are currently stationed in Florida right now, and are moving back to Colorado this fall (or sooner now) They had an alarm system, but unfortunately a battery was out, and wasn't working at the time of the break-in. They happen to be on a mini-vaca, and when they arrived home found the house broken into :(

It was a scary situation, that they are still working on a solution. This got me thinking about our home security. When we moved into this house in August, we noticed it already had a security system in placed, just not turned on/subscribed to. However we live in a really safe town, and our neighbor is a cop! So why turn it on? ...save money instead!

Well after hearing about my sisters break in (although she lives in a high crime area in FL) we get an e-mail from a local neighborhood, warning about a string of break-ins. Great! Here in our little bubble I thought we were safe. Now granted the chances of something happening to my house are slim, it still makes a mama worried!

I talked with Bradley, we decided to check out the alarm company and see how much it would be to turn on. Turns out it was hardly anything for us to have it on, so I jumped on it. Because of the recent break-ins, they are during the daytime. Meaning robbers and knocking on the door, if you don't answer the door,  they bust in. I'm home with my baby a lot, and going in and out of our house.. I would think it's a smart thing to have a system on, when we are home. Makes me feel safer!

Now, some may disagree..but we are proud NRA supporters (national rifle association) so even though we are protected that way in our house, nothing like an alarm going off to help scare anyone away!

Once you become a parent, everything changes...the mama bear comes out! Even in our really safe town (which it is rated #71  with #100 being the safest city) I think better safe than sorry.

::steps on platform::
Don't procrastinate on things like fire alarms, Carbon monoxide alarms, home security. Those things are important. Always have a back up plan, 72hr kits, emergency plans. You never know where life/country is headed, and like I said before better safe than sorry. Even just starting with better locks on doors, wood rods/nails in windows.

Call me paranoid, call me smart..or just call me Mama Bear :)

Bump Watch: 14 weeks

Excuse the tired face, and messy hair.
Pregnancy: 14 Weeks

Weight Gain: 4lbs

Sleep: Still dealing with pregnancy insomnia :( Anyone have tips on how to deal with it? It's really annoying not being able to sleep when you're tired!

Gender: I'm so confused now! I really have no idea, and it's driving me crazy. 1 more month till we know for sure.

Names: We're pretty much set on a girl and boy name....more on that later.

Maternity clothes: Still 1/2 and 1/2..depends on the pants/shirt. I think I'm finally gaining weight, this weekend I feel bigger, I woke up today (sunday) and felt bigger.

Feeling: Overdid it yesterday, didn't felt like I did...but ended up calling my midwife for some advice. Took it easy for the rest of the day and drank lots of water. Thinking I need to restrict the lifting of Curtis up..he's getting to heavy for me.

Movement:  Rolling sensations I've been feeling lately.

Belly: Itchy belly! Started using a Coconut Oil, Vitamin E oil, and Cocoa Butter blend on the belly. Helps sooth itchiness and maybe prevent stretch marks. Here's a comparison picture of Curtis.

Next Appointment:  Next Friday! Can't come soon enough, I have a lot of questions I need answered, about pre-term labor, short cervix, bed rest, low fluid..everything that happened with Curtis's pregnancy. Thankfully they said the low fluid is a random thing, so the chances are low of that happening. However I'm higher risk for having PTL and short cervix issues again.

Milestones: Baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and suck his/her thumb!  From head to bottom baby is 3 1/2 inches about the size of a lemon.

What We Do For Babies

After my 1st pregnancy, and all the complications that happened, I am trying to do everything that I can to make this pregnancy healthy and complication free.

I started out at a lower weight with this pregnancy, then with Curtis's. So now I'm trying to gain weight, so this baby can gain weight and nutrients. I eat pretty healthy already, making sure I'm having enough fruit/veggies/protein all the good stuff. I tend to eat small snacks every 2-3 hours in between meals as well. However the scale isn't reflecting my snacking. Which is discouraging. I have my midwife appointment next Friday, and I know my midwife is going to nicely yell at me about my weight (Which is why I love her, she keeps me accountable) Because of some lower intestine issues, I can't binge on ice cream and milk shakes every night like I did with my 1st pregnancy.

So I'm having to be creative...

I'm not a huge smoothie person, but I do like a good peanut butter/banana shake.
I'm going to try and make some sort of protein packed fruit/chocolate shake before bed.
I'm adding in some extra goodies like Ground Flaxseed, Chia Seed, and Wheat germ.

When my husband was a bachelor, he saw an infomercial about the Magic Bullet
I love my husband and his quirky ways, he saw the MB and HAD to have it. Like told everyone to buy it for him for Christmas. Thankfully his Mama bought him the Magic bullet for Christmas, so his then "Friend" (me) could stop hearing about this blender! :)

Now we have a regular blender, but honestly it doesn't do smoothies/shakes like the Magic Bullet. So now I am thankful that many years ago, my husband begged for the Magic Bullet..that now is "ours"

Do you have a Magic Bullet? Favorite Recipes?

Did you have issues gaining weight during pregnancy? Any good-fat recipes?

I'm open for any suggestions to plump this baby up!

Successful Pinterest Recipes: Vol 3

Okay I FINALLY got around to putting together this post. Granted this isn't even all the recipes I've tried, but this should hold you all over for now.

My husband is a huge Red Lobster fan, perhaps him growing up on the Florida coast has something to do with his love of fish. When I go? I go just for the Biscuits. ::drool::
This recipe is pretty darn close. The only thing I would change up, is adding more cheese to the batter (cause who can go wrong with cheese?) also a dash of Old Bay Seasoning.
Yum!

I love Gyro's (lamb ones to be exact) I really wanted to love this dish, I liked it but not love.
It's one of those I probably will do 1x a year, not in our regular meal roations.

This was YUMMY! A great go-to Chicken dish. Goes with anything, and great on top of a salad the next day!

Who doesn't love pizza? Who doesn't like personal sized food?
Win! Win!

These were yummy, although a bit hard to get that perfect taco shape.
You have to do it at just the right cooling moment else they break!

These were really amazing. I was a bit skeptic of warm Caesar chicken, but it was nothing but delish! You can even use it cold the next day as leftovers! Yummy! Just make sure you get a good brand of Caesar dressing

I loved  this recipe, it was all of my favorite things.. Avocado, Lime, Cilantro.
Have I mentioned I was born in the Avocado Capitol? Fallbrook CA! Bradley is not a huge Cilantro fan, so he didn't even try it. But I enjoyed it. Great summer picnic side!

I made this for Valentines day morning this year, Although it didn't look quite as pretty (Need more crescent rolls then it calls for) it tasted really good. Perfect for a nice weekend breakfast, with bacon on the side.

Shopping for a New Look...

I'm ready for a change. A blog change that is. Everyone has these beautiful blogs, that express the blogger. While I don't mind our blog look, It's not really "my style".

So I am on shopping for a new design/designer to help me achieve my style blog. I love shopping, however with this type of shopping it's not like going into target and browsing their shoes or dresses...I need recommendations, fellow bloggers to say "Hey! Use this person, she's fab"

Also anything on sale/promo code would be even more the better...this mommas on a budget!

Help me shop, Who's your favorite blog designer? or do you like the look of a certain blog? send me to the blog! I'd love to see what's out there!

Catching Up...Hi!

Lately blogging has been the least of my worries. I've managed to keep the  bump-watch posts going, so hopefully that's been tiding you over for now!

What's been consuming my thoughts, is this sweet girl Bonnie. She was a week old on Saturday. She had a surgery this morning, to remove 2 cysts in her nasal passages. They were causing her oxygen levels to drop, and had to be removed. The picture above is her being wheeled into surgery this morning. My dad sent the picture to me, which put my crazy pregnancy hormones in overdrive and I bawled for my sweet niece.

I so wish I could have been at the hospital this morning, but I caught a cold and couldn't risk spreading it. That and I had to baby sit 2 kids today. But my heart was with my sister and her family. I can't wait to get over this cold so I can go snuggle her and tell her how beautiful she is.

In the mean time I've been busy setting up meals for my sister, for when she arrives home. Have you seen the new sites they have for meal sign ups? I'm using www.carecalendar.org it's easy to sing up, set up when meals are needed etc...

I think meals for new mommys are SO important, no matter if it is your 1st, or 4th! It's such a blessing. Did you get meals when you had your kiddos? Or have you brought meals to a new mom?

Speaking of meals, I really need to do a pinterest successful recipe post again! I've tried tons since my last post about it. I promise to try and have it up this week!

Bump Watch:13 Weeks

Pregnancy: 13 Weeks

Weight Gain: 4lbs from pre-pregnancy weight

Sleep: Sleep and I only get along at 2pm in the afternoon, when I have 3 kids I'm watching and they are all getting up from nap time. For some reason that is when I feel like passing out on the couch. For some reason at night, I am tossing/turning/moving so not sleeping. ugh.

Gender: I've said it before, but this pregnancy is nothing like Curtis. I've now started heartburn, which I didn't have until 32 weeks with Curtis.

Names: Girl name is settled, still wavering about the boy name..I like 1 name for the first, and Bradley likes another. We each like the names we both chose, but aren't set on each others as 1st names lol

Maternity clothes: Yup. Put on a pre-preg shirt and it soo did not work.

Feeling: Having indigestion and heartburn at night, oh boy! This baby better have a lot of hair ;) Having all the weird aches and pains in the tummy. Stretching out etc...

Movement: There are for sure little kicks going on, but they are far and few in between. Some days I'll notice it, and others not. Mostly at night after dinner, which is when I would always feel Curtis move.

Belly: Expanding, so quickly too. Guess that's a good thing ;)

Next Appointment:  May 4th!  Anxious to talk about my cervix size (tmi I know) but with my last pregnancy it was short, and monitored..so I'm pretty sure they'll need to check again this pregnancy.

Milestones: Baby is the size of large shrimp..one site said a peach, or in measurements around inches long! Fingerprints have formed. Veins and organs are clearly visible through his/her still-thin skin. If this baby is a girl she already more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries! How crazy is that?

Wordless Wednesday / Niece

I'll admit it, I'm completely obsessed with my new niece. Watching my sister deliver her into this big world was such a privilege, I've seen 4 of my nieces & nephews being born. It's such a great honor, and I love that my sisters & I are close enough to share those special moments. Bonnie is so beautiful and dainty. I just wish she could be home with her family. My sister should find out of she can go home today or tomorrow.

Busy April

Whew! It's been a busy last week. In pictures here's what we've been up too, and why this blog has lacked over the last week.

Relaxing before the craziness of the week unfolded with Grammy.

My appetite came back! So I've been busy cooking a lot of what I've been craving.

Tried my hand at homemade english muffins, thanks to my cousin Stephanie for posting the recipe! Recipe Here

Waking up to thunderstorms, and a little boy in my bed.

Cousin Love at Lowes.

Taking a bath in Grammy & Papa's "new" house
even though they haven't moved in yet.

Visiting this sweet baby girl in the NICU. She's still not home yet, trying to figure out what is blocking her nasal passage, and causing low oxygen levels. Prayers are appreciated for my sweet niece.

Beautiful Bonnie

Please pray for my sweet niece. She was born on Saturday, 5 days overdue. Sunday afternoon she was admitted to the hospital for low oxygen levels. She should be seeing an ENT this morning to figure out why her levels keep dropping.  She's such a sweet baby girl, please pray she can go home with my sister and brother-in-law soon!

Bump Watch: 12 Weeks

Pregnancy: 12 Weeks

Weight Gain: 4lbs from pre-pregnancy weight

Sleep: Fairly good, except I've been having such crazy vivid dreams. Wakes me up panicked most nights. I hate scary dreams :(

Gender: Boy? I'm just expecting a bunch of boys, and maybe eventually get a girl. I think I will be honestly shocked if this baby is a girl.

Names:  We have our girl name. I think we settled on a first name, but still not 100% and still working on the middle name.

Maternity clothes: can we change this question to "lounge clothes" ..if so then yes! for sure lounge clothes

Feeling: Doing much better this week, I'm taking Magnesium Citrate which is helping with my digestive system. I'm hoping with 2nd tri right around the corner I can officially stop being so tired..ha ya right.

Movement: So call me crazy, but I'm 90% positive I've felt some "thuds" and this rolling sensation. I felt Curtis at 14weeks, so I was expecting to feel this one around then, or earlier. Being pretty thin, I think this helps with feeling it sooner. I can also feel the outline of my uterus when pressing around on my tummy.

Belly: No big changes since the last 2 weeks. I do think I am for sure bigger than with Curtis. Here's my bump post with Curtis for comparison

Next Appointment:  May 4th!  With as fast as April is going by will be here before we know it!

Milestones: Baby is the size of a lime. Most dramatic developmental this week: Reflexes! Baby's fingers with open and close, mouth with start making sucking movements, toes will curl, and eye muscles will clench. Nerve cells are multiplying rapidly!

Weekend Report: Easter Part 2

After our breakfast and Easter Basket, we got ready for Church. Curtis looked handsome in his tie :)

Curtis, Grammy & Papa

After nap time, and after the "Easter Bunny/ Daddy" put out all the eggs...we had an egg hunt with family and friends...

Curtis thought it was the most fun thing ever!

You can see the excitement in his face!

After the egg hunt, we dug into a yummy feast!
Ham, Turkey, Croissants, Salad, Mac'n'Cheese, Asparagus Puffs!

Before bed time {not the smartest timing} we had to get Curtis's yearly bunny photos.
With chocolate stained shirt, 2 year old cranky teether...we somehow managed to get at least 1 or 2 smiles

Happy Easter Friends!
